  • Republican lawmakers in 32 U.S. states have weakened health officials’ authority to implement policies to protect the public against COVID-19. Lawmakers in 13 states have limited public health officials’ powers to mandate vaccines and in 23 states they have passed bills limiting officials’ ability to issue restrictions on schools, businesses, and churches. Other laws have prevented officials from conducting contact tracing or imposing penalties for violating health restrictions. (Article here)
