- The Biden administration announced two new steps to reduce the inappropriate use of antipsychotic medications and strengthen nursing home safety and transparency. First, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will increase oversight of inappropriate antipsychotics use by conducting targeted, off-site audits to determine whether nursing homes are accurately assessing and coding individuals with a schizophrenia diagnosis. Second, CMS will post survey citations that nursing home facilities are disputing. (Press release here)
