  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina announced it saved $130 million in 2021 through its Blue Premier program that relies heavily on value-based health care. In total, the health plan saved about $500 million in the first three years of the program. Between 2020 and 2021, the program helped the health plan decrease unplanned hospital readmissions among adult members seeking care at a Blue Premier facility by 5 percent, increase the percentage of members who took steps to manage blood pressure by 12 percent, and conduct 24,000 additional colorectal screenings.
