  • A report from U.S. Department Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) found that Medicare paid out more than $1 million in duplicate claims in 2019 to critical access hospitals and providers. The OIG called on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to launch post-payment reviews. The watchdog report said the creation of a new claims system would “prevent and detect overpayments for professional service payments.” CMS responded that the agency developing that kind of system “may not be appropriate at this time due to the low dollar amount of the errors.” (Article here)
