Access & Coverage
  • The Biden administration issued a final rule that fixes the “family glitch,” thereby giving nearly one million additional Americans access to Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies next year. The “family glitch” loophole prevented family members from receiving ACA subsidies if a household member has access to an affordable – defined as a plan that costs the employee about 9.5 percent of their income for single coverage – employer-sponsored health plan. The final rule considers the increased premiums for adding family members onto the plan. President Biden said that, with the fix, the ACA “works the way Congress intended and the cost of coverage comes down for families all over the country.” (Statement here; Articles here, here, here, and here)
