South Dakota-based Sanford Health and Minnesota-based Fairview Health Services unveiled plans Tuesday to merge and form $14 billion health system serving rural and urban patients across the Midwest. The merger would give Sanford Health access to a major metropolitan market in Minnesota’s Twin Cities, including the University of Minnesota Medical School. Fairview Health would join one of the nation’s largest rural health care systems in Sanford Health, which also covers 220,000 health insurance members. The organizations said they anticipate closing their deal sometime next year. (Press release here; Article here)
