Mental Health
  • The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) released a new brief exploring the latest national data on mental health and substance use trends among adolescents. According to the brief, deaths due to drug overdose among adolescents nearly doubled from 2019 (282 deaths) to 2020 (546 deaths), with the largest increases among males and some communities of color. In 2021, over half of high-school students reported adverse experiences such as emotional abuse – 29 percent reported parental job loss, 24 percent reported hunger, and 11 percent reported physical abuse. Females and lesbian, gay, and bisexual students reported emotional abuse more than their male and heterosexual peers. (Brief here)
