- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule that proposes to update payment rates and policies under the End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Prospective Payment System (PPS) for Calendar Year (CY) 2023. The rule proposes to increase the ESRD PPS base rate by $6.19, bringing the total CY 2023 base rate to $263.09. In total, CMS projects that Medicare will pay $8.2 billion to approximately 7,800 ESRD facilities for furnishing renal dialysis services. The rule also proposes rebasing and revising the ESRD Bundled (ESRDB) market basket, updating the labor-related share, increasing the wage index floor, and imposing a permanent 5 percent cap on decreases to the ESRD PPS wage index.
