  • The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) is accepting applications for expert writing group members to develop and draft the Adolescent volume of the 4th Edition of The ASAM Criteria. The Adolescent volume of the 4th Edition of The ASAM Criteria will update and expand standards and decision rules for the adolescent population using a rigorous methodology. Writing groups will provide expertise to develop the foundation of standards and narrative content for the textbook. The workload will consist of attending weekly or biweekly meetings with writing assignments to draft chapters of the textbook, amounting to approximately 8-10 hours a month. To join the adolescent writing group, submit applications here by July 14.
  • White House officials met with pharmaceutical company representatives Tuesday in an effort to address long-standing concerns about the affordability of overdose-reversal drugs that the Biden administration views as crucial to saving lives amid the nation’s raging opioid crisis. The meeting was held with representatives from 10 companies, including Emergent BioSolutions, which later this summer will start selling without a prescription an overdose-reversal drug called naloxone. While applauding the White House’s efforts, experts cautioned that the summit would not lead drug manufacturers to dramatically lower prices, especially when so many other factors affect prices, including the costs of manufacturing nasal sprays and health insurance coverage.
