  • The Joint Commission launched a new Health Care Equity certification program to recognize hospitals and critical access hospitals that strive for excellence in their efforts to provide equitable care, treatment, and services. Hospitals can pre-apply for certification in early 2023, though the application won’t be available until July 1, 2023. In addition, the organization announced it will retire 14 percent of its quality standards as it seeks to refocus hospital safety and quality goals and decrease administrative burden. Some of the standards include those related to discarding unlabeled medicine, monitoring safe opioid prescribing, and adhering to behavioral management policies. (Press release here; Article here)
