Access & Coverage
  • A new Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) suggests that multi-year continuous eligibility policies could help children maintain Medicaid coverage beyond one year. According to the brief, 37.8 million children were enrolled in Medicaid as of August 2022, with about half of those children in states with 12-month continuous eligibility and about half in states without the policy. The percentage of children who disenrolled and then re-enrolled within the year (or “churned” in and out of Medicaid) was 2.9 percent in states with 12-month continuous eligibility versus 5.3 percent in states without the policy.
