  • Rural hospital officials who expected COVID-19 vaccine mandates to cause a staffing crisis reported that they have lost just a fraction of their staff solely to the requirement. However, they also say that they are still facing significant staffing shortages – the result of longstanding recruitment and retention challenges exacerbated by pandemic-era burnout – and some were only able to comply with the mandate because they granted so many medical and religious exemptions.
