  • Walmart announced it is expanding health care coverage for employees who want to enlist the services of a doula to address racial inequities in maternal care. The retailer started offering doulas to employees in Georgia last year and will expand the same benefit to its employees in Louisiana, Indiana, and Illinois. Walmart chose those three states because of the potential for instant impact for employees – Louisiana’s mortality rate is five times higher for Black mothers than it is for white mothers and 33 counties in Indiana don’t have OB-GYN services.
