  • Mental health advocates are cautioning that expanding access to mental health treatment won’t have a significant impact on gun violence. The experts note that most people with mental illness never become violent – approximately 4 percent of community violence can be attributed to people with serious mental illness, and when they do become violent, poverty, substance use, or other factors are usually at play. They also say that the legislation could impact suicides and support survivors of gun violence. (Article here)
