Chicago, IL, May 17, 2021 – Third Horizon Strategies is pleased to welcome Sara Moscato Howe and Tym Rourke (beginning on June 1) as senior directors. Tym and Sara increase the firm’s ample expertise in helping organizations and communities solve complex mental health and substance use challenges. They join Greg Williams, manager of the cross-sector Alliance for Addiction Payment Reform; Mindy Klowden, national strategist in mental health and integrated care; and Ashley DeGarmo, a licensed clinical social worker and seasoned mental health consultant.
“We are thrilled to have Sara and Tym join our team,” said David Smith, CEO and founder of Third Horizon Strategies. “Sara’s experience building successful coalitions to transform Illinois organizations coupled with Tym’s philanthropy, health, policy, and addiction expertise will be tremendous assets to our clients and magnify our ability to shape a future system focused on the whole person here in Illinois and nationwide.”
Sara previously served as the executive vice president of the Illinois Primary Health Care Association (IPHCA), where she spearheaded the successful launch of a new virtual conferencing program to navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining existing services and support infrastructure. At Third Horizon Strategies, Sara will lead a portfolio of client engagements in Illinois and nationally; bolster business development activities; and support the continued growth of the Health Care Council of Chicago (HC3) by assisting Meghan Phillipp, HC3 Executive Director, with management and operations functions.
“Third Horizon Strategies is a strong, mission-driven firm dedicated to bettering communities and improving lives,” said Sara. “Having spent the last 20 years of my career focusing on health disparities, I am delighted to have an opportunity to take all I have learned and help Third Horizon Strategies make positive impacts across the country.”
As a director at the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, Tym provided leadership on the foundation’s largest philanthropic initiative focused on substance use disorders and behavioral health. His work in addiction policy and systems helped drive a six-fold increase in treatment access in New Hampshire – one of the states hit hardest by the opioid epidemic. Tym will support Third Horizon Strategies’ efforts to transform health care and social service systems by advising local, regional, and national clients on integrated care, systems transformation, population health strategies, health policy, and patient engagement.
“I am inspired by the ever-increasing voices demanding change in how our communities approach health and wellbeing,” said Tym. “As the nation comes through the COVID-19 pandemic, we must act boldly – together – to reinvent our approach to health. I am excited to join Third Horizon Strategies and look forward to partnering with committed leaders, organizations, and communities to make quality health care available for all.”
