  • Several states are considering making changes to school absentee rules to support students’ mental health needs. A dozen states – including Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia, Maine, and Connecticut – already provide mental health days that allow kids to take off for mental health and not just physical health reasons. While the specific policies vary, all require parents to sign a note excusing their child. Proponents of such measures say they are long overdue and can help de-stigmatize mental health in the eyes of parents and children. (Article here)
