Access & Coverage
  • S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra announced that Tennessee and South Carolina are extending health care coverage to women with low-to-modest incomes for a full year after childbirth. Five other states – Louisiana, Illinois, Michigan, Virginia, and New Jersey – have extended postpartum coverage from 60 days to 12 months and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is working with another nine states and D.C. to extend coverage. The expanded coverage is made possible by a provision in the COVID-19 relief bill that will expire after five years unless Congress reapproves it or makes it permanent. (Press release here)
