  • The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released briefing documents indicating that Moderna’s and Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccines are both effective and safe for children 5 years old and younger. The FDA documents found that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was generally 80.4 percent effective. Moderna’s vaccine, which was tested while the Omicron variant was dominant, was 36.8 percent effective against symptomatic disease for 2-to-5-year-olds and 50.6 percent protective against symptomatic disease for those 6-to-23 months old. The analyses come ahead of an FDA advisory committee meeting on Wednesday to discuss allowing the vaccines for children under 5. (Articles here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here)
