  • White House COVID-19 response coordinator Ashish Jha said Sunday that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) might declare monkeypox a public health emergency. Jha reported that the federal government has increased vaccinations, treatments, and testing, and will invoke additional tools as needed. His remarks were made one day after World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared the monkeypox outbreak a global health emergency and two days after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed the first two cases of monkey in children.
