  • Former Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Scott Gottlieb said that the U.S. has failed to contain the outbreak of monkeypox and is “at the cusp” of seeing the virus become endemic. During an interview with CBS, Gottlieb noted that the U.S. is likely detecting only a fraction of cases and that he wouldn’t be surprised if there are thousands of cases in the U.S. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported more than 1,800 cases. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on Friday that it has ordered an additional 2.5 million doses of monkeypox vaccines to respond to the outbreak.
