  • A study conducted by Cigna found that virtual care can reduce unnecessary ER or urgent care visits by 19 percent. The study, conducted alongside its telehealth arm MDLive, found that virtual urgent care visits reduced duplication of care by 16 percent compared to other virtual primary care providers or specialists. The data also show that virtual visits can mitigate costs: the average cost of a non-urgent virtual care visit is $93 less than an in-person visit, and virtual visits can reach people who may not otherwise have access to care.
