- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Department is considering extending the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) once again. According to people familiar with the matter, HHS would potentially extend the declaration into early 2023 — pushing the U.S. into its fourth calendar year under a PHE – to ensure that federal measures expanding access to health coverage, vaccines, and treatments remain through the midterm elections.
