  • A recent study from Humana highlights how seniors faced common challenges related to social determinants of health (SDOH) and inequities before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found that 49.3 of the more than 100,000 Medicare Advantage (MA) members screened were positive for at least one social health challenges. The three most common challenges were financial strain, reported by 33.1 percent of members, followed by food insecurity (18.5 percent) and poor housing quality (17.7 percent). The study also found significant disparities in social need burdens between different populations. For example, the study found a 16.7 percent disparity between Black and white members in food insecurity. (Study here)
