- The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a final rule that officially overturns the Trump-era “public charge” regulation. The Trump administration rule enabled DHS to reject green cards or visa applications more easily if someone uses programs like Medicaid. The Biden administration halted enforcing the public charge regulation in 2021. The final rule officially ensures noncitizens who get health benefits won’t be affected regarding their legal status.
