  • The House Ways and Means Committee released a report that found that extreme weather such as fires, flooding and heat waves, events that have resulted in compromised medical services and facility closures. Most of the 63 hospital systems and community health centers that responded to the committee’s questionnaire say they have experienced at least one extreme weather event at some point in the last five years, with many of those saying they had experienced more than one. Committee Chairman Richard Neal asked CMS to issue guidance to health systems to monitor and report their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, as the health care system accounts for roughly 10 percent of CO2 emitted annually in the country.
