  • The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) said it will investigate the FDA’s actions leading up to the recall of baby formula made at Abbott’s Michigan facility. In September 2021 the FDA conducted a “routine surveillance inspection” of Abbott’s plant after reports of bacterial infections in babies potentially linked to Abbott’s formula. The agency didn’t conduct another inspection until January 31 and issued the recall approximately two weeks later. The OIG expects to compete the review by 2023. (Articles here and here)
