  • New data found that COVID-19 vaccines prevented an estimated 20 million deaths in the first year after they were made available, mostly in wealthier countries. Researchers estimated that more than 7 million lives were saved in countries covered by the vaccine-sharing initiative Covax, but that about 1 in 5 deaths in poorer countries could have been prevented had international vaccine targets been met.
