- VillageMD announced it completed its $8.9 billion acquisition of Summit Health-CityMD, creating one of the largest independent physician practices in the country. Walgreens Boots Alliance CEO Roz Brewer said that the acquisition is a key move in Walgreens’ strategy to grow its consumer-centric health care delivery business. VillageMD announced it entered a definitive agreement to acquire Summit Health-CityMD in early November (2022) with investments from Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. and Evernorth, the health services business of Cigna Corporation.
