- The FTC will file a lawsuit to stop the merger of Lifespan Corp. and Care New England Health System, Rhode Island’s biggest health care providers. The FTC voted unanimously to oppose the deal over concerns that it could create a “health care conglomerate with outsized power” as well as higher bills and worse care for patients. Care New England President James Fanale said the companies were disappointed and will “need to move on to a new path forward,” though a spokesperson declined to say if the deal would be terminated.
