  • The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a final rule that indefinitely delays the radiation oncology payment model. The payment model intended to reimburse oncology practices and outpatient sites for a total episode of care and to develop site-neutral payments for certain radiation therapies. Congress delayed the program’s start date twice and providers argued that the model would lead to a decrease in Medicare payments. CMS said that there it was very costly to continue preparing for implementation, which diverted resources away from developing other alternative payment models. (Article here)
