- The White House released a policy guidance requiring academic journals to provide access to papers that are publicly funded. The policy would end an optional 12-month publication embargo allowing journals to put work behind a yearlong paywall. The Office of Science and Technology Policy said that the policy had the potential to save lives and benefit the public on several key priorities — from cancer breakthroughs to clean-energy technology.
