  • Moderna is pressing the FDA to authorize a half-size booster of its COVID-19 vaccine, but agency scientists say the company has not met all the requirements to support boosters. In a briefing document, posted ahead of the agency’s meeting to discuss third doses of Moderna’s and Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccines, Moderna said halving the dose increases protection against the coronavirus while helping the worldwide COVID-19 vaccine supply. However, FDA scientists noted that data so far make it unclear that the third dose is needed because the efficacy of the shot’s first two doses has remained strong.
