  • Anthony Fauci said on Monday that it is too soon to say whether omicron is the final wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fauci said, “I would hope that that’s the case. But that would only be the case if we don’t get another variant that eludes the immune response of the prior variant,” he added. Meanwhile, Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said that the Omicron-fueled COVID-19 cases haven’t yet peaked in the U.S. and that “the next few weeks will be tough” in parts of the country as hospitalizations and deaths continue to rise, even as cases begin to fall in the Northeast.
