- Lobbyists are looking to block Senator Joe Manchin’s push to include a tax on prescription opioids to pay for addiction treatment as part of Democrats’ social spending package. Manchin has said adding the painkiller tax is a requirement for him to support the sweeping bill, but advocates said they’re worried it could increase barriers to care for pain patients.
