  • The CDC reported that overdose deaths hit a record high last year as the COVID-19 pandemic upended society and daily lives. According to the agency, 104,288 people died from an overdose in the 12-month period that ended in September 2021, marking an increase of nearly 16 percent and roughly 14,000 more deaths than the previous year. States that saw the most significant increases included Alaska (60 percent), Vermont (59 percent), and Kansas (nearly 49 percent). (Data here; Article here)
