- A preliminary study found that two doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine are less effective at neutralizing the omicron variant. The study, which examined the antibodies in blood samples from 30 people who had gotten two Moderna shots are, found that antibodies in two-dose Moderna recipients were at least 50 times less effective at neutralizing the omicron strain, which “could lead to an increased risk of symptomatic breakthrough infections.” Previous research had indicated the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is also less protective against omicron.
