Providers
  • The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) questioned if the medically underserved area (MUA) is precise enough to identify safety net providers that need more help. An analysis from the group found that 18 percent of Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries lived in a full MUA and another 60 percent lived in a partial MUA. The MedPAC noted that since MUAs do not include advance practice registered nurses or physician assistants, the “measure of primary care supply used in the identification of MUAs likely fails to account [for] a third or a half of all primary care physicians.” (Article here)
