  • House Democrats delayed a vote on the $1.85 trillion spending bill after House Minority Kevin McCarthy prolonged the debate with a marathon speech in opposition that ran into Friday. McCarthy spoke for eight hours and 32 minutes, making his remarks the longest House floor speech in history. The House was slated to reconvene this morning. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the bill would add nearly $160 billion in deficits over a decade. The CBO also found that Democrats’ plan to allow the federal government to negotiate some prescription drug prices would save $78.8 billion and cause one fewer drug to come onto the U.S. market over a decade.
