  • The Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report identifying “persistent deficiencies” in HHS’ handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and public health crises dating back to 2007. According to the report, the agency is at “high risk” of fumbling a future emergency due to how it monitors infectious disease data, secures testing and medical supplies, and coordinates across agencies. The GAO said it has made 115 recommendations to help HHS resolve these problems since fiscal 2007, but only 33 have been put in place. (Report here; Articles here, here, here, and here)
