  • Omicron is now considered the most dominant COVID-19 variant, comprising 73 percent of new COVID-19 infections last week in the U.S. The new CDC estimates underscore just how rapidly it has spread across the U.S. As of a week prior, December 11, it was only detected in 12.6 percent of positive COVID-19 cases that were sampled.
